How your support creates a brighter future

From the beginning, the citizens behind the creation of  the Lewes Canalfront Park planned to create a permanent
endowment to ensure the maintenance and vitality of this
wonderful community asset in perpetuity.

Today, the Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park is amidst a  campaign to cover long-term needs. Progress has been made toward that goal over the past several years. Two generous bequests — one for $50,000, the second for $250,000 — have been left as future endowment gifts to support the Park in perpetuity.

More immediately, another $66,000 has been set aside to help seed the endowment, to be maintained for the Park by the Greater Lewes Foundation.

The objective of this campaign is to raise an additional $1.1 million in 2011-2012 to complete the $1.5 million endowment and ensure that the long-term needs of the Canalfront Park will always be met.

These funds will come from three sources:

Earned Income – $100,000
  • Sale of brick pavers
  • Additional “named” items
  • Events & Friends support

Private Donations  – $500,000

Bequests  – $500,000

ENDOWMENT
Friends of the Lewes Canalfront Park was established to meet three main goals:

1. To provide a way for volunteers to participate in Park activities – from help with plantings and clean-up, to suggestions for policies and procedures.

2. To help raise money for future Park maintenance – both annual costs and endowment

3. To actively promote use of the Park by local residents, visitors and other non-profit organizations

You can join Friends with an annual tax-deductible donation of $25. You will receive our quarterly newsletter and invitations to all Friends events, plus a calendar of annual Park activities. Currently, some 275 people make Friends a thriving organization.

Friends is now under the direction of its fourth board of directors. Nancy Targett was the original chair, followed by Jim Rifenbergh, Bob Slavin and Tracy Mulveny. Jim Rifenbergh recently agreed to return for another term as chair.

Needless to day, Friends is comprised of some of the most influential and caring people in our community. Say, "I'm in," and complete a membership application.
